I'm trying to let it sink in without over reacting. But the more hours that pass the more angry I get that we tried to unlock a very stubborn and efficient premier league defence by bringing on Cole and nolan. Big Andy was as there watching for fucks sake

Yep.
It was raining and yes, Downing might have lacked a bit of focus.
Also Noble did have a mare.

Bickles was a great teacher PE was such a laugh. We battered them today just wasn't going to happen. We will do very well this season with this team

David Bickles, that's a blast from the past!
Isn't he the one we signed from Blackburn Rovers & he turned out to be knackered when we bought him - or maybe it was the other way round?
Long time ago now!

We we unlucky not to come away with all 3 points
Fair play to Villa, they defended well, their goalie made several great saves & they rode their luck a bit
The negatives:- Our midfield looked quite sloppy at times giving up possession far too easily until Nolan came on
There seemed to be a lot of space on the left side of our midfield as there did against Stoke
Kouyate didn't look his usual self since coming back from injury
Sakho failed to score ~ so didn't keep his amazing record going
Reid was poor as if his mind is somewhere else
The positives:- We dominated most of the match bar about 15mins at the start of the 2nd half
Carroll was a real threat for the few minutes he came on & was incredibly unlucky not to mark his return with a goal or two. Good to see him back as he will add another dimension to our attack
The old West Ham would probably managed to concede a late goal & lose 2 more points than we did. At the end there was only one team likely to score a winner
We didn't concede
In conclusion, it's a long season & despite us all expecting to win this one, it was always a potential bannana skin for us which we didn't lose

Dave Bickles was the only one of that team I didn't recognise, at least by name, so I looked him up.
He made his debut in that win at Anfield, but later became a victim of the West Ham medical team.
Broke his shoulder without it being diagnosed, and was accused of not putting the effort in, and booted out to Crystal Palace. The Palace doctors discovered the truth (presumably, they actually looked at the player, and not the entrails of goats...)

We might get something out of our trip to Liverpool as long as the worrying signs of Allardyce reverting to default mode - those substitutions, especially taking Valencia off for the Joke that is Cole were the most glaring - don't come to the fore (is Sheringham's star on the wain?).
Having said that, I'd take encouragement from the positive and dynamic overall approach when we battered them in the last 15 minutes, so let's hope the right conclusions will have been drawn.
